Safe in my Father’s arms

There is a song by Christian singing group “Sanctus Real” that is entitled “Safe in my Father’s Arms”. It contains a great message about knowing we are loved by the King, that we are offered hope in God and that we are invited to become God’s children. It is a great song that reminds us of a powerful truth.

I would like to briefly talk about that truth.

Safety and security are important things to us. We want to know that nothing bad is going to happen to our kids, spouse or even ourselves.

We try to ensure ourselves against negative things and further we try and buffer ourselves to possibly prevent those negative things from happening at all.

There are certain employees and even entire companies whose entire job is “risk assessment” and “risk management”. We try to manage our vulnerabilities and protect ourselves against any and all possible harm.

We may bubble wrap our children and put up fences and defenses to protect ourselves and yet we often find that there was something we didn’t think of that still penetrated our armor. Perhaps worse even that this is the very real possibility that in the midst of all of our efforts we have actually begun living life with an anxious mind, a hard heart, frayed nerves and a suspicious, critical or paranoid spirit.

So what then is the alternative?

You already guessed it and know where I am going with this.

We must give ourselves over to the Lord. We must place ourselves in His capable hands. For us to truly find peace and protection we must find our safety in our Father’s arms.

  • When we receive the diagnosis of a life-threatening disease or face injury or sickness we have to remember “I am safe in my Father’s arms”
  • When we are cussed out, betrayed or rejected, we have to remember “I am safe in my Father’s arms”
  • When the storms rage and the circumstances fall apart we have to remember “I am safe in my Father’s arms”

What do I mean by this? Do I mean that we pretend that there isn’t trouble? Do we pretend we aren’t sick or hurting or at the end of ourselves?

No! We must face the reality we are confronted with.

And yet in the midst of the reality of what is happening in this temporal world, we rest in the actual embrace of love and mercy, compassion and comfort in the arms of God and furthermore we entrust ourselves into His care because we know regardless of the outcome in this world, the eternal outcome is that we are safe in our Father’s arms.

We are not afraid of the one who can harm our body but cannot touch our soul. We are not afraid of the troubles of this world that are here today and gone tomorrow. We are not ruled by the sinful choices of others or the brokenness of this world.

The reality is that in this world we will have trouble. God never said we wouldn’t. God never said He would keep us from difficulty. God never said that His children wouldn’t have to hurt. But God did say that in the end, He would set all things right. He did say that He would place His Spirit and His kingdom inside of us. And He did say that His kingdom is unshakeable.

Oh yeah, and one more thing: God did tell us that His kingdom is eternal and when we are in Him we have eternal life. So remember this: we are safe in our Father’s arms. Don’t let the worries of this world or the deceitfulness of wealth or the desire for earthly things choke out the fruit of peace and joy that is found in His arms.

I am safe in my Father’s arms.

Are you? Entrust yourself fully to Him. He will take care of you
