Let’s face it: you and I can’t do it alone. As a matter of fact, we rely on people and certain tools all the time to help us to live and to do our jobs. I imagine your phone and computer are tools right at the top of the list. Hopefully your spouse, family, and friends make the list too. But can I ask you a question? What singular thing or person do you rely on more than anything else?
For many of us, we not only rely on other people and specific tools but we also rely on our own cleverness and ingenuity, we rely on our experience and our own self-assumed wisdom. Let me tell you though that above all else you and I must truly rely on what will never fail and what will never leave us wanting or lacking.
We must stop relying on ourselves and instead look to God Almighty.
You and I need to learn to rely on God for all that is needed. We need to recognize that He has what we need. He has an abundant and overflowing supply. And more than that: He is ready, willing and waiting to share it with His children who ask.
Here are a few thoughts I have written about my personal dependence on God:
- I must rely on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for all that I need for life and ministry.
- I must rely on the Lord alone for the fruits of the Spirit that I need to have
- I must rely on the Lord alone to help me live for His glory
- I must rely on the Lord alone to lead and empower me as a witness working for the salvation of people
- I must rely on the Lord alone to make it possible for me to build others up
- I must rely on the Lord alone for the ideas, insights etc for expanding His kingdom on earth as in heaven.
- I must rely on the Lord alone to live a holy life
- I must rely on the Lord alone to live a life of service and ministry
This utter reliance on the Lord doesn’t mean I don’t have to do anything but rather that the power, strength, wisdom, supply, and direction comes from God and I simply and completely obey.
When we rely on the Lord, He will never let us down, never fail and never give us anything that is insufficient for the need. So this week, ask the Lord to be your all-sufficient supplier and then rely on Him, alone. You will be glad you did!
