Distracted driving results these days in thousands of fatalities per year.
Distracted parenting results in exasperated children who feel unloved, unimportant and unwanted.
Distracted living is a strategic trap the devil is using to destroy families, churches, and faith.
In my own life in the last year, the devil worked hard to distract me from the most important things. Sometimes I must admit I was taken in by his schemes and paid attention to the diversion instead of keeping my eyes on the prize.
The distractions and diversions come in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is a random thought of fear or accusation, or a sinful/selfish temptation. Other times the distraction is an interruption from our God-given tasks to do some other seemingly “good” thing.
In my own life the devil often brings things across my path that seem urgent and perhaps life-altering if left unaddressed and yet they truly are distractions from my own reading of the Word, spending time with God in prayer, discipling my wife and kids, nurturing my own health or sharing the hope and the gospel with other people.
So this week, be on the alert, watch out for the snare and traps of the enemy. Don’t stop doing the most important things because of distractions. Don’t be distracted from living faithfully to the Lord. Don’t be distracted from nurturing your own soul or loving/encouraging/discipling those around you. Don’t be distracted from living thankfully and worshipfully unto the Lord. I will pray you will let the Lord focus you on what really matters and let go of the rest.
