We get to choose

No matter what you do today, the fact is that it you had a choice in it.

It’s true.

Every day, every moment, we get to choose. And we do choose.

You might object and say, “No, I didn’t get to choose whether or not this or that happened to me” and that may be true, but you do get to choose how you react to the things that come your way.

There are numerous things that we don’t choose about our lives. But there are innumerable things that we do choose.

The shirt you have on today. The meal you have for breakfast. The alarm you set and the time you got up this morning (oh and by the way, these might not be the same thing) you got to choose. The expression on your face, the people you call, the things that you do today, the words that you speak, yes, even the things you avoid: these are all things that you have chosen.

There is beauty in this. But there is also responsibility.

What will you do with your choices? Will you choose self? Will you choose self-serving activities, thoughts, words, attitudes and actions? Will your reactions be for self?

Or will your choices be for God’s glory? Will your choices be for the good of others? Will you choose to live such that the needs of others will become an integral part of how you decide what to do? Will you choose to live in such a way that the glory of God is always of utmost importance and first priority in your deciding what to do?

For so many people (you and me included!) choices are often made with little to no thought, with little consideration of the impact on others or the will of God. So many choices are made simply because of how they make us feel. Our comfort or pleasure become the sole motivators in many of our choices.

This should not be! God has called us to so much more! He has given His Holy Spirit to His children (and if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus as Savior, His Spirit is in you!) and yet we make choices, saying yes to some things and no to other things with hardly a thought of what the Word of God says, or whether or not it will bring God glory. This should not be!

Today, you will choose. Your choices will be plentiful. Choose carefully. Choose with much prayer. Choose with the Word of God (the Bible) informing your decisions. Choose according to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

And choose wisely.

This life and the next are determined by your choices!
