There are two causes for hopelessness.
Yes only two.
Simply put, we have hopelessness only based on:
- What we are looking at
- What we believe
Reality is that when our eyes are on things that are threatening, harmful, unjust, unclean, unholy, impure, insufficient, askew and awry we lose hope. The reason we lose hope is because our eyes are focused on things that are not right. And deep within our spirit we know something isn’t right and yet we try to stir up some kind of hope by shifting our focus from one temporal thing to another.
Now it is possible to live in hope even while having to see things that are less than perfect and even downright hurtful to ourselves and others, but in order to do this we must use spiritual eyes to “see” and therefore believe that there is a greater good at work even in the midst of the turmoil and heartaches of this world. To find hope in the midst of hopeless situations we need to realize and ultimately believe that God above is good, perfect, holy and able to set everything right. To find hope we need to believe that He is in fact already working things for good.
And so hopelessness in our lives is caused by what we are focusing on and what we believe. If we believe that what we see with our eyes is ultimate reality, hopelessness will certainly grab hold of us and not let go. But if we learn that our unseen God and His truths are actually what is ultimately real then we can live by hope even in a world of despair. All we must do is keep our eyes focused on the eternal, holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God of love and truth. God is even now offering salvation, hope and deliverance to all who will look to Him and believe. Will you?
What are you looking at?
What do you believe?
Will you look to God, believe, receive His hope and finally live?
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
