I love to hunt for treasure. In books, at yard sales, even metal detecting. It is fun and adventurous! There is something in me that simply loves to go out and try and discover the hidden, the lost and the forgotten. I also love to find things of great value! It brings me great satisfaction to find something of great worth.
One thing I have noticed though is that I may occasionally stumble upon a treasure while in everyday living, but most of the time I have to intentionally seek after it. It takes time and effort and planning to go metal detecting or to look for the best deals at a store. You have to get the right equipment, go to the right place, spend the time necessary and then even so, many times I may come up empty handed. But the search, the quest is so much fun! But then again if I never found a treasure, eventually I think I would stop looking.
There were are number of people 2000 years ago that were searching. They were searching for something they didn’t have. These people were looking for healing, for hope, for something to hold onto in the midst of their uncertain and perhaps unhappy circumstances.
And then one day someone told them “Come with me, I have found someone”. And so the people went to find Jesus. They heard that he was in town, but they also heard that he might be able to help them, heal them, instruct them, etc. And so the crowds followed Jesus. They went to Him because they were desperate. Their state of affairs was not acceptable. They needed change, they needed hope. They went to Jesus because they were seeking something that seemed elusive and hidden. Some came to be delivered from evil spirits, others came because of physical illness, still others came because of questions about God and eternity.
Maybe they came to Jesus because because of desperation, maybe they came just to see if He was the real deal. I am sure some came because they were curious, but others probably came because they were invited. But ultimately they all came because they were drawn by the Holy Spirit. God was the first One to go on a treasure hunt. He came to seek and save the lost. And God in His seeking, is drawing us to look for Him. He is inviting us to call out to Him. God says, “Come to me all who are weary and have heavy burdens”. God has a treasure for us. A gift. And that gift is salvation, hope, healing, deliverance and provision. God says seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened, as and you will receive.
So if you find yourself desperate, needing something more, looking for love, joy, hope, peace or something else that you once had but have now lost: please seek the Lord. Whether you have been invited recently, or are just curious if Jesus really can do anything for you, please, hear the call of God and run to Jesus. God has been seeking you and sees in you a treasure that He wants for Himself and He has an eternal treasure and supernatural blessings that He wants to pour out into your heart and life if you will let Him!
